German 101 - Beginning German I

Introduces understanding, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Emphasizes German sentence structure. Asking and asnwering questions on common, everyday topics. Describing people and places, and narrating events in the present. Course content includes greetings and introductions, vocabulary dealing with school, family, housing, food, shopping, and holidays.

German 102 - Beginning German II

Continues to emphasize the understanding, speaking, reading, and writing skills developed in German 101. Describing and narrating events using past tense. Course content includes weather expressions and seasons, vocabulary dealing with sports and leisure, health, hotels and lodging.

German 203 - Intermediate German I

Class conducted mainly in German. Helps the student develop understanding of German spoken at conversational speed. Read and comprehend basic German texts on familiar topics, such as travel, housing, and free time activities. Course content includes comparison of adjectives and adverbs, word order of dative and accusative cases, introduces the genitive case, and past tense of regular, irregular, and modal verbs.

German 204 - Intermediate German II

Class conducted mainly in German. Further develops conversational competence on everyday and advanced topics. Read and comprehend basic German texts on familiar topics such as health, everyday life, current events, and holidays. Course content includes further study using adjectives and dative and accusative prepositions, the past perfect tense, and the present subjunctive for situations dealing with doubt or emotion.
